Continuous data flow for road authorities and road users in UDAP
16 Dec 2021[Project]
Speeding ahead with data exchange
It’s been nearly a year since the Urban Data Access Platform (UDAP) revolutionised how road authorities and users connect in The Netherlands. Now, it’s the perfect moment for an exciting update on the transformative data flows we’ve achieved.
Since January, the pace of data exchange has been unparalleled. Every road authority in the Netherlands, along with certified service providers, now taps into the rich data services of our national platform. This milestone marks a new era of connectivity and efficiency.
By the numbers: a data deluge
Are you curious about the scale of data we’re talking about? Here’s a quick snapshot:
- Connectivity across more than 1,000 Traffic Light Controllers (TLCs)
- A staggering monthly tally of over 30 billion messages processed
- More than 2.5 billion monthly status updates from TLCs
- Over 9 billion status messages from road users each month
- Configuration of over 5,000 intersection priority rules monthly
- Over 100,000 ‘priority request’ messages handled every month
- Constant monitoring of 20 key performance indicators to ensure seamless connections and usability
These impressive figures from October 2021 underscore our platform’s capability and growth.
UDAP dashboards: insight at your fingertips
UDAP isn’t just about collecting data; it’s about making it accessible and actionable. We gather data from diverse roadside systems and receive anonymised movement and vehicle-related insights from users. For road authorities, our dashboards display real-time data exchanges, connected object statuses, and report on various use cases. On the other hand, road users receive essential traffic and route information through the connected service providers, all in real time.
A forward-looking conclusion
As UDAP continues to evolve, we remain committed to enhancing road safety, efficiency, and sustainability through innovative data solutions. Our journey so far has been remarkable, and the future looks even brighter as we continue to make traffic talk.
