The epicentre of smart mobility data exchange
UDAP is the epicentre of smart mobility data exchange—a place where all intelligent mobility information converges, ready to be shared and received. Menno Malta, the visionary founder of Monotch, sheds light on its significance.
“All Traffic Light Controllers in the Netherlands use the new platform, but much more is possible,” Malta explains, underscoring the vast potential that UDAP brings.

Empowering Seamless Mobility
Monotch took the helm at the request of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, crafting UDAP to foster rapid, reliable, and accessible communication among road users, authorities, and service providers. Malta highlights the transformative nature of UDAP: “Smart mobility requires a smart exchange of information between road users and road authorities.” This initiative embodies the essence of efficient and effective data exchange, propelling the mobility sector forward.
UDAP in Action
Expectations are high for UDAP’s role in enhancing traffic efficiency across numerous municipalities. The platform serves as a foundation for service providers to develop a variety of in-car information services. Malta shares an enticing vision of the platform’s capabilities: “If you are the only one on the road at night and you use Flitsmeister, Onderweg or RingRing, then, in principle, the connected traffic lights will always give you the green light.” This illustrates the personalised, user-centric approach that UDAP facilitates.
A Future of Possibilities
UDAP is not just about enabling applications; it’s about unlocking potential. “From time to green and advisory speeds for road users via apps to prioritising road traffic at intelligent intersections. However, in the future, we can also use it to measure tyre pressure via sensors and other data. We expect several thousand additional infrastructural objects to be connected in the coming years,” Malta envisions, highlighting the platform’s scalability and versatility.
Reliability and Speed at the Core
UDAP’s ability to manage vast data volumes with minimal latency sets it apart. Malta elaborates on the platform’s efficiency: “The platform is built to exchange large volumes quickly and securely. We immediately see the result in the first practical case where all Dutch Traffic Light Controllers are connected.” This emphasis on speed and security is pivotal for the platform’s success in managing the complex dynamics of smart mobility.
Commitment to Safety and Quality
With 750 operational Traffic Light Controllers, UDAP’s adherence to stringent safety and performance standards is unwavering. “At the moment, approximately 750 Traffic Light Controllers are operational. How quickly it responds to the data sent is recorded for each Traffic Light Controller. If that response falls outside x number of milliseconds, the software will issue a warning. If the response time is not adjusted, we disconnect that Traffic Light Controller from the system,” Malta details, highlighting the rigorous monitoring process to ensure data integrity and system reliability.
