Data Quality Management: Lessons learned in a large-scale (C-ITS) deployment
The Dutch Talking Traffic program, a major smart mobility initiative, focuses on deploying Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) services at scale. Data quality control has a critical role in realizing this ambitious project. Highlighting a three-year journey, the program evolved from initial quality arrangements to continuous data quality control. Key elements include KPIs, quality control policies, and diagnostics within the program’s ecosystem.
We learned about the need for standardized technical agreements, testing processes, and organizational requirements. Continuous evaluation led to updates in technical standards, product certification, and the establishment of a testbed for integration testing and certification. A standardized Management and Maintenance (M&M) contract, aligning with KPIs monitored by the central platform, underscores the role of service management in data quality.
The result is a thriving Talking Traffic ecosystem, potentially the largest C-ITS deployment globally. The documented standards and processes offer valuable insights for other regions seeking large-scale C-ITS deployment and its associated benefits.
