This project unites road authorities and technology providers in a collaborative effort to optimise traffic flow and enrich the travel experience for road users. By sharing precise and timely traffic updates, service providers are equipped to guide users with alternative routes during incidents, significant events, or construction activities, enhancing overall road safety and efficiency.
Monotch’s pivotal role in streamlining data flow
Monotch’s TLEX platform emerges as a critical player at the core of this technical endeavour. The platform efficiently gathers traffic-related data and prepares it for widespread dissemination. By supplying this vital information to service providers, Monotch enables the integration of real-time traffic updates into navigation apps, ensuring that road users receive the most current and relevant travel advice.
A collective effort in traffic data integration
The project distinguishes itself through the collaborative efforts of industry leaders. Collaborators in this project include Altran, Goudappel, MAPtm, Vialis, Scenwise, Monotch, Be-Mobile, and Innovactory under the SmartwayZ.NL umbrella. Together, they have executed a Proof of Concept that encapsulates the entire data chain. This means from collection to end-user delivery in the cities of Breda and Roermond. With this, they set a precedent for comprehensive and seamless information flow within the traffic management ecosystem.
Harmonising static and dynamic traffic data
Leveraging the TLEX platform, Monotch combines static (predetermined traffic scenarios) and dynamic (real-time traffic updates) data within a traffic management context. This integration empowers navigation and service providers to offer enhanced travel recommendations. Additionally, it grants road authorities more significant influence over traffic dynamics.
Digitising road network strategies
The ‘Smart Routing’ project also emphasises digitising road authorities’ network visions. It aims to optimise the utilisation of road networks by disseminating strategic traffic control information. This initiative supports traffic management measures and enables service providers to align user guidance with the most socially beneficial routes, thereby aiding road authorities in achieving their policy objectives.
