Cloud innovation and expansion

A year has passed since the Mobilidata consortium in Belgium took a significant step by integrating a cloud platform with traffic lights across Flanders. This integration has been a game-changer in facilitating direct communication with road users. In early July 2022, Mobilidata ambitiously expanded its capabilities by incorporating an Interchange platform into the existing cloud infrastructure. Dubbed the most advanced C-ITS interchange globally, it enhances data management and governance, driving efficiencies and ensuring targeted information dissemination.

Notifications at your fingertips

At the core of this technological synergy between the cloud platform and the interchange are our partnerships with leading solution providers like Be-Mobile (through the app Flitsmeister) and NDrive. This collaboration enables road users in Flanders to receive timely notifications on potential road hazards directly on their mobile devices. Users can stay informed about:

• Slippery conditions
• Obstructions from animals or people on the road
• Cargo spills
• Incidents such as accidents or breakdowns
• Ongoing road works
• Traffic congestion tail ends

This initiative significantly elevates road safety and situational awareness, fostering a safer driving environment for all.

Charting the future of safer mobility

The introduction of these six use cases is just the beginning. They embody our commitment to “Personal support – risk reduction,” one of Mobilidata’s core objectives. As we progress, an additional 25 use cases are set to launch, further enriching our ecosystem.

The project’s success, underscored by the delivery of the TLEX® and Interchange, results from a collaborative effort led by our deployment partner Be-Mobile and a consortium of companies.
