Our journey since 2015

This vital initiative targets the essential digitisation and automation of mobility across the Netherlands, paving the way for an advanced, resilient transportation system.

Menno Malta, CEO of Monotch, emphasises, “Ever since Monotch was founded in 2015, we have been working on improving the data connection of the Dutch infrastructure. This first happened in 2017 when our Traffic Live Exchange (TLEX®) platform went live as part of the Talking Traffic project.” Beginning with smart traffic lights, Monotch has proven that effective data exchange between public and private sectors is key to achieving safer, more efficient, and sustainable mobility on Dutch roads.

Expanding the ecosystem

The DITM project signifies a robust collaboration among 19 diverse partners, including industry leaders and innovators, all supported by RAI Automotive NL and Brainport Development. This initiative aims to create a holistic mobility system, integrating vehicles, roadside technologies, traffic management, and urban design challenges. Central to this ambition is Monotch’s TLEX® platform, which enables seamless data sharing across various stakeholders.

Government partnership: a crucial element

Direct engagement from the Dutch government, especially the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, is fundamental to the DITM project’s success. This collaboration ensures that the Netherlands remains a frontrunner in managing traffic flow and accessibility, essential for its role as a major transit country. The government’s involvement guarantees the implementation of future-ready, secure, and efficient infrastructure solutions.

TLEX®: proven adaptability

Following its initial success, the TLEX® platform has continually evolved, adapting to new requirements and projects. “Before granting the government contribution for the DITM project, we as partners had already had a lot of contacts to discuss how we could jointly modernise the Dutch mobility system and make it future-proof. Because TLEX® was already known to the various parties from other projects and pilots, the role of Monotch is obvious. We will use our TLEX platform to make data exchange fast and secure in real-time and bi-directional,” said Paul Potters, Smart Mobility Director at Monotch.

A milestone project for Monotch

Menno Malta further states, “The DITM project is larger in scope than the international NordicWays3 project in which Monotch is involved. So, we will put an important part of our time and energy into this new project. We at Monotch look forward to it because we are convinced that this experience is very valuable for the future of mobility in the Netherlands and certainly beyond.”

Timeline and vision

The DITM project embarked on its journey in April 2022 with a vision to continue at least until 2026. For Monotch, this venture has already commenced, marking a pivotal chapter in transforming the Dutch mobility landscape.
