Tyre Pressure Monitoring
Tyre pressure has a direct impact on road safety, vehicle reliability and emissions. Within the Connected Transport project, SmartWayZ.NL demonstrated how Tyre Pressure Monitoring helps logistics operators detect tyre pressure deviations before they lead to breakdowns, accidents or unnecessary delays. By sharing tyre pressure data in real time, drivers and fleet operators can take action before minor issues become major incidents.
Heavy goods vehicles with underinflated tyres or tyre blowouts are a common cause of traffic disruption, accidents and unnecessary CO₂ and NOx emissions. Even when tyre pressure is checked regularly, damage during a journey can quickly lead to unsafe situations.
To address this challenge, SmartWayZ.NL implemented an intelligent roadside tyre pressure monitoring solution on a logistics corridor. As vehicles pass the monitoring location, tyre pressure deviations are automatically detected and securely shared in real time with both the driver and the transport company’s back office. This enables faster interventions, improves road safety, reduces operational costs and helps prevent unnecessary emissions.
The Connected Transport project demonstrates how secure real-time data exchange enables transportation agencies, logistics operators and technology partners to collaborate in delivering smarter, safer and more sustainable freight transport through existing digital infrastructure.
